i must say that yesterday's prayer vigil was beautiful.
there were a mountain of problems that came up along the way:
the city of Biloxi refused us the use of a public park because this was too political.
all our Vietnamese interpreters got sick.
our immigrant friends were scared to come out.
numerous pastors decided that this as too political, and apparently God does not want us "involved" in these things.
the forecast was predicting rain.
but it was beautiful.
the day was warm and overcast.
we prayed on the grounds of the old Seashore Mission, that had been the only shelter on the coast and had been destroyed in Katrina, it felt like hallowed ground.
the ministers that prayed were eloquent and brave. they prayed for God's intercession, they thanked those immigrants working on the coast.
the community that prayed was a mix of local homeless, a my friends, our co-workers for justice, clergy, folks from local congregations and a few Guatemalan brothers and sisters in the Lord.
there might have been a moment when i felt as if i knew exactly why i was on the coast....
and that is a miracle.
