You're Doing What?

The following is from the Mission Year Website regarding my new faith adventure!:

"In a collaborative effort, DOOR, Mission Year, PC (U.S.A), PDA, and local churches are moving full force into the Gulf Coast region beginning this fall. Together we have established a program for young adults to serve for one year in southern Mississippi and Louisiana. The hand of God was evident in the group of young adults that made their way from different parts of the country to demanded, Mississippi for 4 days in early June to discern their role in this program. Together with staff members from each of the aforementioned ministries, everyone toured the damaged areas and talked with volunteers who have been in the region for upwards of 10 months. Though the devastation is vast and can be overwhelming, the courage and dedication of God's people far surpasses the storms fury.

The young adults will be serving in many capacities to aide those effected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Among the many volunteer placements, some of the young adults will be organizing and running volunteer villages for the thousands of volunteers that are continuously streaming into the area. Others will be leading follow up efforts to ensure that the residents of the Gulf Coast are holistic cared for. Bricks and mortar are a huge need but so are social services. In line with our Christian community development values this program exists in order to come under established local ministries. We are going into the Gulf Coast area to help ministries that are tired, without resources, and also rebuilding from their own personal devastation.

Please pray for all those who are committed to this new adventure as the physical and emotional toll is bound to be extensive. There is still a lot of work to be done but with the help of the Holy Spirit, the ministries involved in this relief and reconstruction effort are committed to 'Bridging the Gulf' for the glory of God and the benefit of the communities of Mississippi and Louisiana. "
